Full Moon Gloom
30/12/23 18:57 Filed in: Photography | Home
The full moon for December (seems like a witching moon) was out in the early morning hours this past week. I was able to snap this photo of the moon glowing through the large oak tree by the house. The light through the limbs of the tree gives an eerie cast to the image.
Christmas Quilts

I was able to give some of the quilts I have been working on to some of the grandkids. It is great to be able to see the final product and that they can enjoy and have these for the ages.
For Ryan and Jesse, the quilts are heavy enough to keep them covered and warm for those cold winter nights like today.

Roman Mosaic Discovered
24/12/23 07:41 Filed in: History
Recently archeologists in Rome found a buried mosaic in a large banquet room from the first or second century B.C. Amazing!!
The article is found here.
Estimated to be around 2,300 years old, the work is part of a larger aristocratic mansion, located near the Roman Forum, that has been under excavation since 2018.
Almost five meters long (16.4 ft) and featuring depictions of vines, lotus leaves, tridents, trumpets, helmets and mythological marine creatures, the mosaic scene was painstakingly created using mother of pearl, shells, corals, shards of precious glass and flecks of marble. The piece is framed by polychrome crystals, spongy travertine, and exotic, ancient Egyptian blue tiles.

A Quilting We Will Go
19/12/23 16:11 Filed in: Home
I recently finished a quilt I started about 10+ years ago at a quilting class in Sweet Home. It is called House in the Hamptons. I am pleased I was able to complete it and it looks good. Not perfect yet colorful. It is more a lap quilt size or wall hanging. Here is this early masterpiece.
Spice Kitty

When Dr. Marybeth Rymer came to visit she took a phone picture of Spice Kitty who lives with us. Spice is a foodaholic cat and loves to sneak extra dry food. This means that any weight loss measures we start and seem to go well become unhelpful in the long run. She gains more weight back. She is definitely smarter than the average bear or owner.
Mt. Hood in Morning
14/12/23 11:13 Filed in: Oregon | Photography
We had an early drive up to Portland yesterday. We seem to be stuck in air stagnation and low clouds here yet it was clear skies from Salem north. It was the start of a pretty sunrise and I was able to take a photo with my phone camera out the window of Mt. Hood and the sunrise as we went down the freeway with traffic. A bit tricky yet quite worth it.
Gingerbread Houses
Olisha and the girls (plus Olisha's sisters) invited their former neighbors to the house to decorate gingerbread houses. The children seemed to enjoy and get into the spirit of Christmas. This is the third year for gingerbread houses. They all seem to be colorful, different and fun. See for yourself.
Friends For 40 Years

Dr. Mary Beth Rymer Temples has been a dear close friend for slightly over 40 years. We met at a veterinary conference in Santa Cruz when I was 7 months pregnant with Scott. We have practiced in the Diablo Valley area for 20 years in the vicinity. She now works at Civic Feline Clinic that I established on August 23, 1983. It has been a good friendship. Marybeth, Bob, and I went to the restored Elsinore Theatre in Salem 3 days ago to watch an uncut version of Home Alone on their big screen. What a lot of fun and enjoyment. Gets you in the holiday spirit.
Here is to Marybeth!
